#Interview with #erotic #author Kara Leigh Miller and #giveaway!

Happy Friday, everyone! Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Kara Leigh Miller, author of the erotic romances Love By Number and Never Date a Cop

Hi Kara Leigh! Thanks so much for being here today. And congratulations on the awesome success of your novella Never Date a Cop. It reached the Number One spot on Amazon the day it was offered for a free download! In keeping with my Five for Friday meme, you've agreed to let me ask you five nosy questions. So let's get started!

 1.   Not all your readers may realize that you are a wife and the mother of five children. With all that responsibility, how do you manage to find time to write?

It's much easier finding time to write now than it was a year ago. My husband just took a new job and is on the road a lot so he's not home much anymore. And all of my kids are now in school (WOO HOO!) so I pretty much have all day to write. I also bring my laptop to bed most nights and write once all the kids are sleeping.

2.  What made you decide to write romances with blistering hot explicit love scenes rather than those that take place "behind closed doors"?

The short answer: Because I wanted to see if I could. lol. Seriously though, writing "behind closed doors" sex is just so boring. Sex is such an intimate act between two people—it can bond them or tear them apart. Romance novels are all about the relationship between the hero and heroine so why not explore, in detail, their bedroom activity? It just seemed like the sensible thing to do.

 3.   We all love a love story, especially if it's true!  If you don't mind sharing, how did you and your husband meet, and how did you know he was "the one"?

We were in college. I was a full-time student during the day and he was a part-time student in the evenings. I had a friend name Kari who was seeing this guy named Luke. The two of them thought it'd be fun to set me up with a guy Luke worked with. I was at the tail end of a pretty nasty divorce at the time and they felt it'd cheer me up to meet someone new. Anyway, John and I started with phone calls and then progressed to lunch dates until John decided to throw me a birthday party, which was very sweet of him.  That party would make great material for a novel. lol. And before you ask, no, I'm not sharing what happened at that party. ;)

There are two things I vividly remember that clued me into the fact that he was "the one". First, he accepted me and all my baggage (ex-husband and two small kids) with no questions asked. He was great with my two daughters and they took to him immediately. And he was my rock during some of the nastier custody-court issues I was dealing with.

Secondly, after our first kiss, which was beneath a tree in a local park, I wouldn't look at him. I don't know why, but I was suddenly very nervous around him. At that moment something clicked for me. I thought, "Hmm, this has never happened to me before. It must mean something."

Ten years later we're still together.

4.  In Love by Number, Ashleigh falls for Ryan even though it goes against her "no fraternization" rule. In Never Date a Cop, Kynlee goes after Cooper , breaking her own rule to, well, never date a cop.  Have you ever broken a rule (your own or someone else's), and how did it turn out?

I have to admit, I never noticed this recurring theme in my stories until you just pointed it out. lol. It's odd, really, that I write about people breaking rules because that is so totally opposite of who I am. I've always been a rule-follower and I rarely break them for fear of getting into trouble or fear of confrontation—which I always try to avoid.
I used to break my parent's rules. Does that count? There were plenty of times I was told not to do something and I did it anyway---like sneaking out of my friends' houses, riding in cars with boys, etc. I only got caught once and was grounded for a month. That didn't stop me though. I just learned to get more creative with how I did things.

 5.  What's next for Kara Leigh Miller? Please fill us in on any upcoming stories or other exciting news for the future!

I have some very exciting things coming up! First and foremost, Love on the Rocks (The Aurora Island Resort Series #2) is being released later this month. This is the story of Ashleigh's brother, Jeff and his quest to right his past wrongs and find love. It takes place during Ashleigh and Ryan's wedding. It was a lot of fun to tell this story and revisit some old friends.

Love at the Edge (The Aurora Island Resort Series #3) is under contract and should be released either December of this year or January of 2013. This is Vince's story—Ashleigh's best friend. I think of all the books in this series, this one is my favorite. For now, anyway. I have plans to write two more books in this series.

I've also just contracted for my first full-length novel entitled Death of a Waterfall. It's the first in the Hayden Falls Trilogy. At its heart, it's a romance, but it's also dark. It deals with some pretty messed up family dynamics, an unhealthy relationship, and forced abortion.  It'll be out in both ebook and print format next year.

My YA Contemporary Romance, The Georgia Corbins, is also now contracted and will be available in print and ebook early next year. This is the story of fraternal twins, Levi and Tucker Corbin. It's a love triangle at its best.

I'm also working on a new erotic novella with a hint of horror to it. I'm still in the very early stages of writing this so I don't have a title and can't really tell you much about it yet. lol.

You sure have a lot coming up. That's great. Thanks again, Kara Leigh, and much continued success to you!
