#Review: Asylum by @Danawrite (Ghost Echoes Book 1) #PNR #ghosts

Blurb:

The voices of the past are alive behind the iron gates of Bremore Asylum. Can Rachel and Matt deduce its secrets before it's too late?
When Rachel agrees to take the job investigating the disappearance of a fellow ghost hunter at Bremore Asylum, she is totally unprepared for the sexy and stubborn psychic debunker Matt Rutledge to be a part of the package. Can these two opposing forces find the answers behind the asylum's crumbling walls before they become the newest victims to the asylum's grim history?

Excerpt:
Rachel narrowed her eyes. What little hold she held on her frayed temper snapped. Self-doubt flared, but she stamped it out as quickly as it came.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She stepped forward, hands clenched into fists, her foot brushing against the luggage. Her hoodie slid off the suitcase and flopped unceremoniously into the dirt.
"We haven't even started on the project and you're trying to displace me already?"
Rutledge stepped back, surprise clear on his lightly parted lips. Lips she apparently still wanted to kiss, damn his eyes. God, what was wrong with her?
"My friend almost died because of a mistake I made. But you're already aware of that, aren't you, Mr. High and Mighty? Listen to me and listen good. I'm here because my grandmother needs me. I'm a damn fine ghost hunter, which you would already know if you bothered to see beyond what happened to Jeannie." She poked her finger into his chest and had the satisfaction of seeing him wince.
Matt stepped back and held up his hands, a ruddy flush creeping up his cheeks. "Okay. I was out of line. Truce?" He bent down and carefully picked up her hoodie, handing it to her gingerly.
"Thank you, Mr. Rutledge." Rachel snatched the hoodie from his hands and tied it around her waist with a firm yank. She didn't want to chance it falling in the dirt again and it was going to be a long weekend. At the rate they were going, it was going to be a full-on ice storm between them.
A flash of humor crossed his face. "Do you think maybe you could call me Matt?"
    "That depends."
"On what?" Matt cocked his eyebrow with surprise.
"On whether you can stop dissecting me like one of your frauds."

***Nona's review of Asylum***

Who doesn’t love a ghost story? Even if you don’t believe in other worldly spirits, it’s fun to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the little chills running up your spine. This story features not only a spooky old building, but also a mysterious disappearance and a sexy conflict between dueling investigators.
Rachel Winestock believes in ghosts and spirits. In fact, they are her livelihood. She is a paranormal investigator who’s been hired to investigate Bremore Asylum, a long abandoned hospital once used as a warehouse for society’s poor and unwanted, including unruly children and “disobedient” wives. This puts Rachel in direct conflict with Matt Rutledge, who is not only a skeptic, but a debunker of psychic phenomena. He not only wants to prove that Bremore is not haunted, but to demonstrate that Rachel is a fake. In spite of their opposing views, Rachel and Matt feel an intense attraction to each other.
I loved how the characters in this story were placed in such delicious conflict. As they investigate the asylum where a previous investigator has disappeared, they discover they must work together not only to unearth secrets, but to save their own lives. Rachel is performing this task not just to salvage her career, but to earn enough money to rescue her beloved grandmother from a substandard nursing home. Rachel’s devotion to her grandmother made her a very sympathetic character.
I liked Matt, too. He’s an honest man who works to expose phony psychics who take advantage of needy, desperate people (think a younger, more studly James Randi.) He’s clever and brave and ready to step into the hero role when danger threatens, but also secure enough to let Rachel take the lead when necessary.

The story has plenty of twists and turns and more than one mystery must be solved along the way. There are surprises, too. When Matt and Rachel must deal with a very real person who wants to harm them, a ghost may be their only ally. I really enjoyed Asylum not only for the thrills and chills, but for the sympathetic characters and the sweetly sexy romance.

One Good Man, now only #99cents! #erotic #romance @nonaraines

Hello, everyone and happy Friday! I have some exciting news to share. My very first published romance, One Good Man, has been permanently priced at only 99 cents! It's the first book in The Man series (which includes Take This Man and Her Perfect Man). The other books have also been permanently reduced in price.

Here's the blurb from One Good Man:

Just one touch...that’s all Andie Benedetto wants when she glimpses her father’s sexy neighbor. Images of deep, long kisses and down and dirty sex heat up her fantasies. When he catches her watching him, she’s embarrassed but undeniably turned on.

Just one weekend...that’s all Matthew Vostek can offer Andie. He recognizes her shyness, but also senses her desire, the same desire he feels. Maybe they can fulfill each other’s hottest fantasies.

Just an adventure...that’s what Andie tells herself. Tired of playing the good girl, she’s ready to accept Matthew’s challenge and enjoy the most exciting sexual escapade of her life. But when the weekend is over, will Andie finally take what she wants instead of settling for second best?

And for your enjoyment, an excerpt:

She crept to the glass door and froze.
He was there, in the same place as the night before. But tonight Matthew was standing and staring right at her.
A wave of heat flashed through her body, coating her in a sheen of sweat. At the same time she trembled as though caught in a snow squall. Again, her mind shut down, and her body took over. She unlocked the door latch, slid the glass panel open, and stepped onto the deck. The automatic sensors tripped the lights and she stood illuminated, the lights shining through the thin satin of her nightgown. Her nipples budded against the silky material and moisture pooled between her thighs.
Matthew did not move. Instead of T-shirt and jeans, he wore sweat pants and no shirt at all. The dark hair on his chest tapered down until it disappeared below the waistband of those sweat pants. His face bore no expression, but there was the tightness of arousal in his features.
Matthew didn’t move, didn’t speak, as Andie  slipped across the deck, down the steps, and across the lawn into his back yard. Exactly as she’d done in her fantasy. In the fantasy, she glided smoothly into Matthew’s waiting arms. She didn’t step on a sharp stone with her bare foot and stumble like a clown. “Ow! Oh.”
In the fantasy, Matthew didn’t rush to catch her by the arms to keep her from falling flat on her face. He didn’t need to hold her steady as she hopped on one foot wincing in pain.
Andie finally managed to stand on both feet. Burning with embarrassment, she almost turned around to crawl back home in humiliation.
Matthew’s breath brushed her ear. “Are you all right?”
Her resolve stiffened. She grabbed his face and pulled him down for a hungry kiss.
Andie claimed him with her kiss, while his lips worked softly against hers, his tongue exploring the soft moist interior of her mouth. His large hand cupped the back of her head, making Andie feel possessed and cherished at the same time.
But Andie didn’t want to be cherished, didn’t want gentle and caring. She wanted wild and fierce. Wanted to feel his big hands rubbing all over her.
It was better than her fantasy, running her hands over his shoulders, down his biceps, across his furred chest. His skin was so warm, so smooth. She broke the kiss and leaned in to lick his nipple, but he grasped her arms and gently pulled her away.
“This way,” he murmured, his warm breath tickling her ear and sending tingles over her skin. He turned her and guided her toward the doorway, intending to take her inside. But Andie wanted something different. Tonight it was ladies’ choice.
“No.”  She pulled him in another direction, around to the side of the house hidden from the street. Matthew’s hand splayed on her lower back, burning through the light fabric of her nightgown as he followed her lead.

They barely made it into the dark corner when Matthew pushed her against the siding, kissing her hungrily and pulling up the back of her nightgown, running his hands over her back and ass. Andie edged her fingers down the top of his sweatpants, teasing his belly and playing with the coarse hair leading further down. Then, growing frustrated with her play, she pulled the stretchy waistband to stroke his erection. He was hot. Hot and hard and velvety.

One Good Man is now 99 cents at:

And don't forget:
Take This Man (now only $2.99)
The biggest mistake of Elyse Zemanski's life was falling in love with Adam. When a night of sexual fantasy went too far, she was crushed and couldn't leave town fast enough.

The biggest mistake of Adam Vostek's life was letting Elyse go. He'd been afraid of the love she promised and pushed her away—into another man's arms...and bed.

When Elyse returns to Summit to help a friend, Adam wants a second chance to prove he’s worthy—in and out of the bedroom. She claims she's over him, but one look from those smoldering dark eyes, and she throws caution to the wind. Elyse offers him seven days of wild sex, hoping to get him out of her system. Adam's good to go on the sex. But will a week be enough to win back Elyse's love and trust?

Her Perfect Man (now only $2.99)
Kim Hansen has terrible luck with men. When her sexy downstairs neighbor shows a more-than-neighborly interest in her, she's suspicious. She's been burned too many times, by too many guys. Steamy sex is one thing, but Charlie Keller is smart, hot and successful—so what could he want with her besides a few nights of pleasure?

Though Kim does her best to shut him down, Charlie's not put off by her attitude. He doesn't scare easy. Kim thinks she's clever, using sex to maintain an emotional distance and to keep him off guard. But Charlie sees through her tough exterior to the tender heart beneath.

But Kim needs to be won over. Sure, their bedroom action is awesome, but given her past mistakes, she's convinced Charlie is too good to be true. Just too perfect. But if Charlie has his way, he'll prove that he's the perfect man for her.

Perilous Play: The Real Fifty Shades @Suzdemello #BDSM #memoir

Perilous Play: The Real Fifty Shades by Suz deMello
(#BDSM #memoir @fetlife  @MFRW_ORG #menage)

The cover of Perilous Play states: based on a true story. The fact is, very little in this memoir is fiction.

Places and names have been changed. The time in my life when these events occurred is altered. One scene was added, to wrap up the story and tie it in a tidy bow.

But otherwise, it’s all true.

Check it out:

One woman’s journey into the contemporary kink underworld, Perilous Play is Suz deMello’s explosive personal account of her experiences with BDSM. Engaging and honest, this groundbreaking memoir will grab you and never let you go.

One woman’s journey into the contemporary kink underworld, Perilous Play is Suz deMello’s explosive personal account of her experiences with BDSM. Engaging and honest, this groundbreaking memoir will grab you and never let you go.

Here’s an excerpt about one of my first dates with the man who would become my Dom--Trapper Hart. Trapper is a real person. That’s not his true name of course, but I gave my word that I wouldn’t reveal his secret life. I don’t owe him anything—not after the way he treated me—but I do keep my word.

Trapper and I spent the rest of the day together. We went to a vegan restaurant and two bars, including one dive so obscure that even Trapper got a little lost in the vast transit system despite his wealth of knowledge about the east bay. As we went back to school so he could pick up his bike, he started a conversation about sex.

Bondage sex.

BDSM sex.

My heart raced. I said I was interested.

He wanted to know what role I preferred.

I said I thought I tended toward submission while trying not to squirm too obviously.

I found some courage and asked him out Saturday night. He said he wanted to go to his condo at Sea Ranch, a beautiful beachside getaway on the Sonoma coast.

I tried not to be too disappointed.

Later in the week he clarified—he wanted me to go with him.

I was stunned.

I was actually considering going with a man I barely knew to his condo, alone, a hundred miles away from my home, where I would have BDSM sex with him as his submissive.

Had I lost my mind?

Yes, but not completely. I might not have known Trapper well, but I saw where he hung out. As far as I knew, few serial killers were bike-riding, Birkenstock-wearing Berkeley-based vegans. In fact, even though I had a legal background and an interest in true crime news, I had never heard of a bike-riding vegan serial killer.

So I figured I’d be okay.

About Tamra Lassiter

I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here and I love every minute of it! Writing is my third career. I didn't set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I've loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books and I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve won. Life’s too short and who needs all that strife to bring us down? Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!

His Kind of Woman @nonaraines Now Available Wide! #transgender #romance

Good morning all and happy Tuesday! Today I’m sharing a Teaser Tuesday snippet from my story His Kind of Woman, which was published in 2013.  It was previously available only at the publisher site, but has now gone wide. It’s now available to purchase at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other e-retailer sites. I’m proud of this story and others liked it, too: in fact, it was nominated for the DABWAHA (sponsored by the Dear Author/Smart Bitches book blog) in the GLBT category.
The story is a M/F romance, but a bit different in that the heroine is transgender. It’s also a story about bullying and its after-effects on its victims. Is forgiveness possible?
NR_HisKindofWoman_coverin
When Roy Girard went looking for Victor Varrano, he never expected a woman to answer the door. He soon discovers that Victor is now Venetia. Roy’s startled, but even more surprised by his attraction to her. As they spend time together, he doesn’t want to let her go. But she’s sure to dump him when she learns his secret.
Venetia’s falling hard and fast for Roy. But when she learns that his brother was the bully who tormented her in high school, she’s shattered. She can’t wrap her head around the fact that the man who made such amazing love to her could so completely betray her trust.

Excerpt:
Venetia studied the slip of paper in her hand. Roy Girard? She didn’t know him. He wasn’t the type of man a woman would forget. A big man, but not fat. He didn’t look like a gym rat but someone who kept in shape with physical labor. His blond hair was a bit shaggy—it needed a good trim. And a mustache. She didn’t much care for facial hair on men, but on him it looked good. Damn good.
He liked her looks too. There’d been nothing creepy in the way his gaze had drifted over her. She’d felt admired. There’d been a spark between them.
She shook her head to clear it. Hold on, you have no clue about this guyNow is not the time to be thinking with your panties. Focus, girl, focus.
He wasn’t someone from the past. God knew there wasn’t much she could forget about her youth, though she’d tried to wipe it from her memory. But try as she might, she couldn’t forget the time when she was known as Victor.
But she’d never really been Victor. She’d known that, or at least had known that she was somehow different, since she was a child. And as she grew and that difference made itself clear to others, her life had become a nightmare.
At home, there was no way to explain it. Her parents wouldn’t, couldn’t, understand because she had no words to tell them: Mom, Dad, I know I look like a boy, but I’m really a girl.
She tried for years to pretend. Tried to be the son her parents wanted. Tried to fit in at school, so no one would guess her secret. Never muscular enough to be a jock, she’d managed to join a few clubs and garner some good friends. But she’d still ended up being a target. She’d been taunted and bullied mercilessly, called every dirty name in the book, shoved into lockers, punched and kicked in the locker room, beaten up with regularity off school property. Her friends had been as helpless against the mean kids as she was. And when adults had intervened, the bullies just got sneakier.
And the saddest thing was the feeling that somehow she’d deserved it. That the creeps had in some way figured out that she was a boy who wanted to be a girl. The cruelty and beatings were punishment that she had coming, for being a freak.
She remembered every one of the bullies. Their names were burned into her brain. Sam Ennis. Gabe D’Annunzio. Travis Lemcke. She hated their guts. People might say forgive and forget, but Venetia just couldn’t do it. They’d made her life hell and had driven her to the brink of suicide.
She shook her head. That was the past. She knew who she was, and those boys couldn’t hurt her anymore. But this Roy Girard. Who was he? And what did he want with her?

His Kind of Woman, now available at all retailers!
Have a terrific Tuesday, everyone!

When Tatum’s daydreams of murder become a reality, all fingers point to her.

In Tatum Wood’s opinion, murdering her boss on a daily basis within the safety of her thoughts is better than therapy. Until he takes a swan dive off a building and all evidence points to her. Thank goodness she has Franklin Reed. Her mysterious, overprotective and drop-dead gorgeous coworker is all too eager to play hero. With two attacks in her building and her stalker with a penchant for roses, Franklin’s injection into her life couldn’t have come at a better time.

As Tatum and Franklin scramble to discover who’s behind the murder, secrets are unearthed that question his motives...as well as his identity.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Franklin rose, lithe and poised, from the chair. He turned toward me and offered a hand. “Pleasure to meet you, Tate.”

Tate? Nobody had called me Tate except for my father and the assholes in high school. One-Date Tate. The nickname and the curse followed me like a perpetual shadow through most of my academic career.

I would’ve corrected him, but when his full mug came into view, my tongue curled up and shriveled. My IQ dropped thirty points. Again, I quickly averted my eyes. I had no choice. They threatened to pop out of my head. There was good looking and there was gorgeous. This man played in a league that put both of them to shame. “Pleasure meeting you,” I managed to stutter. With grace comparable to a drunk college freshman, I grasped his hand and gave it one good shake. When I tried to pull away, he squeezed tighter and caressed a thumb across my knuckles.

My girlie parts twitched. No joke. I needed to leave before I left a puddle of desire on the floor between my feet. Holy cow, I’d never been affected in such a way.

“The pleasure is all mine.” Franklin tilted his head as if inviting me to admire him.

Nope. No way. I would not look into those eyes again. The way my body reacted, I’d end up sprawled naked across the desk with a rose between my teeth. I reclaimed my hand and jetted through the door.
