Battle Cry by @Melissa Snark #fantasy #PNR #Norse #shifters

BATTLE CRY to be released on Dec. 18th, 2014
Book #2 in the Loki's Wolves series
Melissa Snark
Genre: Norse folklore fantasy
Word Count: 96,000 approximately

Cover Artist: Farah Evers

One man dares defy Fate.

Survival demands sacrifices; healing requires forgiveness.

Men revere him; monsters fear him. Jake Barrett, the notorious Hunter King, values loyalty to family and followers above all else. When the daughter of his closest ally murders Daniel, his oldest son, it sets off a chain reaction of violence and destruction that claims the lives of both wolves and hunters. Determined to avenge his son, Jake seeks the truth at any cost.

After losing her lover and then her mate, Victoria Storm simply wants to get on with building a new life in Sierra Pines, California. A vengeful Jake Barrett and his organization aren't going to make that easy, especially with the unwelcome attraction between her and the Hunter King's second son. Perils beyond the mortal coil plague Victoria. When the Norse Fates predict Victoria will destroy the world, her duties as a priestess of Freya come into conflict with her responsibilities as a Valkyrie of Odin. When they tell her she will do it to save her unborn child, she's not so sure they are wrong.

Sawyer Barrett has been trying to kill Victoria for so long, he doesn't know whether he loves her or hates her. Desperate to end the war, he's willing to take chances with everything–except his heart. The hunter harbors a deadly secret he can't reveal without risking the ceasefire and his life. At Sawyer's urging, Victoria agrees to peace talks with Jake. All the while, an ancient vampire plots the destruction of wolves and hunters alike. If the embittered rivalry between hunters and wolves doesn't end—and fast—there is no hope for Victoria's pack... or for their world.

Excerpt:

Shade enshrouded Skuld, and her voice manifested upon the air, thick and oppressive, closing in from all sides. "Your daughter will not grow to adulthood in Midgard."
Victoria's heart slammed against her breastbone. Her breath expelled in a horrified gust. The bowl dropped from her hands and flew to protect her abdomen. "What do you mean?"
"Your daughter will be taken from you on the eve of her third birthday," Skuld said. "The one you trust most, a member of your own pack, will give the child over to your greatest enemy."
A growl trembled in Victoria's throat, and her entire body shook under the dual assault of fear and rage. The suggestion of betrayal from within her own pack filled her with disbelief to the core of her being. It was unthinkable. Gritting her teeth, she sought a solution, refusing to dwell on it. "How am I to prevent this?"
"We speak of what will come to pass," Verðandi said in a sympathetic tone.
"Your predictions are not carved in stone," Victoria said. Arguing with Fate was a foolish endeavor, but she refused to accept their prophecy.
The old woman, Urðr, smiled with a frightening gleam in her eyes. "Predictions, carved into the trunk of the World Tree, carved into the spiritual fabric of the world."
Stubborn determination settled over Victoria like armor. Her mother had taught her there was no absolute fate, just as there was no absolute free will. Life consisted of a wide range of possibilities between the two extremes. She refused to allow her daughter to die at three years of age. She would move worlds, alter fate, slay gods.
Whatever it took.
"Do you wish to save your child?" Skuld asked.
Victoria answered without thought. "Yes. I'll do anything. Tell me. Please."
"The final days are upon us," Verðandi said.
Skuld took over speaking. "To save your daughter, you will side with Loki against the Aesir. You will use your enchanted dagger to cut the binding of the great wolf Fenrir. You will be responsible for freeing the beast that kills Odin."
Victoria's stomach turned. Her head shook in automatic denial. "When the gods imprisoned Fenrir, my people pledged fealty to the Aesir. We have served them loyally ever since. Even when we were driven from the homeland, almost a millennium ago, we remained faithful. I will never cut Fenrir's bonds. To do so would end the world we live in and doom us all."
Skuld's gaze held steady. "You will."
Victoria snarled her denial. "No. I will never become the servant of the Trickster or willingly take part in bringing about Odin's death."
Skuld turned her head and pinned Victoria with one black eye that rolled in its socket like a liquid marble. "To save your daughter, you will."

Hunky Holiday Blog Hop! @ngwngroup #win #prizes

Happy Friday, everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by! Today I'm doing something special, taking part in the Hunky Holiday Blog Hop sponsored by the Nice Girls Writing Naughty author/readers group. Each author in our group is sharing a Christmas themed post about how her hero(es) celebrates the holidays. We are each giving out prizes and there is a *GRAND PRIZE* of a fifty dollar GC! So make sure you leave a comment and visit each of our blogs to be eligible for the big prize!

Today I'm sharing from my upcoming release (coming next Tuesday!) Christmas Candie. It's part of the Nicely Naughty 2 holiday menage anthology. Let me share the blurb with you:

Aidan Callahan loves Christmas. His family makes it a big celebration and he does his best to carry on the tradition. Every ornament on his huge Christmas tree has a story and holds a special memory.

He’s been hooking up for six months with Val Stenzler and would like to get closer to her, including sharing his love of Christmas. But aside from their hot sex sessions, she holds him at arm’s length. What’s the problem?

Val hates Christmas. The most devastating, humiliating event of her life happened at Christmastime two years ago, and she’s still trying to get past it. There’s no room for fruitcake or mistletoe in her life. As far as she’s concerned, the holiday season can’t pass quickly enough.

Christmas suddenly becomes a lot more interesting when Val and Aidan meet Candie Hurley. She’s as sweet as her name, as sparkly as tinsel and as mysterious as the Northern Lights. Aidan and Val both fall under her spell, but will the night they spend with her bring them closer together or tear their relationship apart?

Since Aidan loves Christmas so much, he's all in when it comes to decorations. A large poinsettia sits on his dresser, all the windows in his apartment are graced with twinkling lights, and a big evergreen takes up half his living room. He owns boxes of ornaments and each one holds a special family memory. His family generally decorates the tree on Christmas Eve, but when Val and Candie show up a few days before, he agrees to haul out his collection and let them help decorate.

From Christmas Candie:

They went silent when Aidan returned carrying two boxes. Val took the smaller one and placed it on an armchair, while Aidan set the other box on the sofa.
He opened the large box. “It was a tradition in our family to wait until Christmas Eve to decorate the tree. Guess I’ve held on to that even on my own.”
Candie’s lovely mouth twisted into a frown. “You don’t mind us upsetting it by helping you now?”
“Not at all. It’s good to have friends to do this with. You’re helping me make my own traditions.”
“That’s sweet.” She dipped into the box and pulled out a red-and-silver blown-glass bulb. “Oh, this is beautiful.”
He gazed at the old-fashioned ornament. “That’s a family heirloom. It belonged to my grandmother, and my mom passed it down to me.”
“You hear that, Val? Wow. What else is in there?”
Val listened quietly while Candie marveled at each treasure Aidan uncovered. There was a story attached to almost every ornament in the box. The time the dog chased the cat up the Christmas tree; the year his brother broke his arm and they spent Christmas Eve in the emergency room; the year they all came down with the flu right before the holidays.
“My God, do all your Christmas memories involve catastrophic events?” Val asked.
“Hey, there were four of us boys growing up in that house. Every day there was a catastrophe—hell, every hour, practically. My mom had nerves of steel.”
    “I’ll say.”
“So, Candie, what kind of Christmas memories do you have?” Aidan asked.
Val froze and caught her breath sharply. They’d been having fun, decorating the tree and joking around. She hated for the mood to be broken, for Candie to have to recall her sad memories.
He picked up on Val’s reaction and glanced between the two women. “Sorry. Did I say something wrong?”
Candie shook her head. “No, of course not.” She smiled. “I never had any pets run up the Christmas tree. Never had any pets, except for a goldfish.”
Aidan grinned. “Guess a goldfish can’t cause much trouble.”
    “Yeah, Goldie was pretty mellow.”
Val relaxed with a silent sigh of relief. To help the awkward moment pass, she quipped, “Our cat Ziggy is too fat and lazy to try a stunt like that. For him it would be like climbing Everest. He’s too lazy to even play with the bulbs at the bottom of the tree. He mostly just sleeps underneath it and drinks the water from the tree stand.”
Candie pulled out another ornament. “Oh, look at this little one. How cute.” She held it out for Val to see. It was made of clay, flat on one side like a cookie, and hand painted. “Somebody made this one.”
“I did,” Aidan admitted, his cheeks growing pink. “In second grade. Good old Mom. She hung on to all my crap.”
“Don’t be embarrassed,” Candie told him. “It’s sweet.” She dangled the ornament from her fingers.
“It is cute. A little Christmas dog.” At least Val thought it was a dog. It had a fat body and short legs. “What are those things on its head?”
“Those are horns.” Aidan huffed. “Antlers. Whatever. It’s supposed to be a reindeer.”

#Werewolves Love #Cupcakes! To Mate a Werewolf @KryssieFortune #recipe #PNR

Happy Friday, all! I have a guest today--Kryssie Fortune is here talking about her new release, To Mate a Werewolf. And guess what? She brought cupcakes! Yum yum, all for me. But don't worry, she also brought a recipe so you can make some, too! Happy reading (and eating :-) )!

Sweet Treats Werewolves Love

Hi,
Kryssie Fortune here. I’ve dropped by to tell you about the heroine in my latest book. She discovered werewolves love cake.

Last time I saw her, she gave some of her recipes to share with my friends.
Of course, Ellie never had time for such fancy decorations shown below. The Lykae soldiers always got to her buns before she’d finished

Excerpt

He lifted the book from her hands. “Mom, I think I gave you the wrong idea about Ellie last night.”
His mother flung her arms around him. “Congratulations on your win. Now listen, young man. Ellie's a treasure, and she knows her way around a wood-burning stove. When she offered to take over the catering, I could have kissed her. Goodness knows how she’ll find the time, but she promised to set up tables and benches too. ”
Joel’s shoulders sagged with relief. His mother always judged people correctly, and his clever Ellie had charmed her. She’s mine, but she doesn’t know it yet. A growl rumbled through his throat when he realized she could have any man she chose. One taste of her delicious concoctions, and she had them in the palm of her hand. The only one dumb enough to resist her had been him. The lush contours of her body and the sweet taste of her lips fascinated him. .

Recipe for Ellie’s Cupcake Tower

Ingredients

55g (2oz) Margarine (1/4 cup U.S. measurement)
28g (1oz) Caster Sugar (2 Tbsp U.S. measurement)
55g (2oz) Self Raising Flour (1/4 cup U.S. measurement)
1 egg
1 tsp Baking Powder (1.2 tsp U.S. measurement)
2 tsp Vanilla Essence (2.4 tsp U.S. measurement)

Recipe

1. Mix the flour, sugar, egg and margarine together in a large mixing bowl for two to three minutes until fully combined.

2. To this mixture add the Vanilla essence and Baking powder and stir again until completely mixed.

3. Fill the muffin cases to just over half way.

4. Put in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 190C (180C Fan) Gas 5 until springy and a light golden colour. (For U.S. readers, over temperature should be 375 degrees Fahrenheit.)

Note from Nona: For friends in the states, I converted the ingredient measurements to U.S. standards using http://www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/convert/measurements.html.
Oven temperature conversions were made at: http://www.metric-conversions.org/temperature/celsius-to-fahrenheit.htm

Happy baking!

I'm sharing the anthology with two other awesome authors, Caitlyn Willows and fellow Diva Rachell Nichole!

My story is a FFM menage--in fact, the entire Nicely Naughty 2 anthology is a collection of menage romances in different combinations. Consider this a smorgasbord--a little something for all tastes.

I've an embarrassment of riches to share today, because here's the cover for the entire anthology.

Beautiful cover by Ginny Glass
